2016 weddings and a thank you!

Our wedding season has come to an end for 2016, so we have a chance to reflect on all of the beautiful weddings held here at Belmount over the year. Each one has been different from the last, and the final one, last weekend, was our largest of the year with 140 guests in a marquee on our west lawn.

We received a lovely thank you card in the post from a couple who were married in June. June doesn’t seem like one week ago, let alone 4 months ago! It is hard to believe that we have held 10 weddings since, and there marriage celebrations are clear in our heads.

A snippet from the card reads…

Thank you so much for being the perfect hosts on our wedding day. This is a little note to offer a very warm, heartfelt and enormous thank-you for doing everything you did to make 25th June 2016 a reality – or if you like ‘a dream come true’. It was very special to have had you with us, not just for the day itself, but with us on our journey up to the wedding, and, we hope beyond.

It was very clear that you are all devoted and passionate about making ‘magic’ happen in the beautiful house and grounds of Belmount Hall.

We’re looking forward to our 2017 weddings!

Tony and Joule’s Autumn wedding

Autumn has certainly started to make its mark in the Lake District. Leaves on the trees have got a slight orange tint, the ground is covered in dew for the early stages of the morning and there’s a definite chill in the air. Our first Autumn wedding took place on Saturday and it was a beautiful day.

Intercity blues band played on the lawn outside during the reception; white doves, a symbol of love, were released after the ceremony to celebrate the marriage; a magician performed tricks during the meal and the cake was nothing like we have seen before – Three tiers of chocolate cake with an electric photo frame in the bottom. It was made by Andy Nutall from Custom Cake Art and represented Tony and Joule’s love of Asia.

Photos of the week!

Michael and Sarah’s wedding was a magical June event. They were married in church, followed with pictures by the lake and their wedding party at Belmount Hall. Sarah had commissioned a business in London to design the table names and table plan with watercolour flowers, and they turned out beautifully. These photos landed in our inbox this week and what an amazing job Tiree Dawson Photography did of capturing Michael and Sarah’s wedding day!

Steven and Kelly’s post wedding gathering

As well as weddings, hosting house parties at Belmount are a firm favourite. In Steven and Kelly’s case this was a fantastic post wedding gathering at the end of July. They had brought the sunshine with them from America and were able to have champagne and nibbles on the front lawn whilst the children played lawn games. Two weeks after the event we received this lovely thank you letter from Steven’s parents.

“Now that we have settled back into some sort of normality, it has given us the opportunity to write and thank you for everything you did for Steven and Kelly to ensure their gathering in the Lakes was such a success. Feedback from everyone has been tremendous: – The house and grounds are beautiful; the food was absolutely delicious; the band and ceilidh excellent; Gillie’s cakes ‘to die for’ and the mini bus driver so nice. We were just thrilled with Steven and Kelly’s choice of venue.

On the Saturday, the weather was kind to us and yourselves and everyone’s help from getting the bar ready; cutting the grass; preparing the food and drinks; help with re-arrangements and allowing us a free hand with decorations and games on the lawn, meant that by the 3.00pm kick off everything was in place and stress free!

We have to say how much we appreciate the attention to detail with the tables, linen and glasses and the food was just amazingly good. The really little ones were delighted with the strawberries and ice cream served in lovely dishes.

The children just loved it. One of the little chaps in the kilt was overheard as saying: – ‘I thought this wedding thing was going to be dead boring, but it’s not… it’s really cool!’

We now have very fond memories of our gathering in the Lakes. Thank you all.

Jean and John”

Helen and Khurrum – 16.07.2016

Another fantastic, action packed wedding weekend! We started food preparations on Thursday, when a spice mix Helen had sent arrived in the post to be made into a marinade for their halal lamb, and didn’t seem to stop until Monday. The day itself was wonderful, Khurrum’s children had made the sweetest place names for the tables, Helen was beautiful in an embellished dress and everyone looked so happy all day. We talked wine with the father of the bride, who had supplied all the bottles from their vineyard in France, so if you do come across Chateau Astrelus, take it from us that it’s worth a try!

The celebrations carried on into Sunday, when guests were invited back for a lunch of fish pie and salad and games on the lawn. Everyone (young and old) got into the games of cricket on the lawns. It is one of our favourite things to see them being used and enjoyed!

Olivia & George’s marquee wedding

Olivia and George’s story started in nursery, where they attended together with just a year apart in age. Now grown up, it was very special to be a part of their big day – they truly were a lovely couple!

Either Olivia and George have an influence on the weather, or it is ‘the Belmount effect again’. Saturday, the wedding day, was dry all day long, with the sun shining bright at the critical time – during the champagne and canapés reception. They had a glorious wedding, with a marquee for 96 guests on the west lawn, the ceremony in the Indoor Marquee and the evening entertainment in the West Barn Rooms. The bridal party all chipped in to create stunning flower displays, table decorations and DIY touches throughout Belmount.

“From start to finish nothing was too much trouble and everything ran so smoothly.
We’ve had so many comments from people saying it was the best wedding they have ever been too, how beautiful Belmount Hall is, how tasty the food was (we both thought it was the best ‘wedding food’ we’ve had) and how fantastic the staff were. The breakfast was delicious and much loved by all the guests staying in the house, you made everyone feel so at home and you even made sure the sun was shining throughout the whole day!

Thanks again to all involved, we had the best, most special day and can’t wait to return to Belmount again soon.”

Hannah and Mustafa

Hannah and Mustafa had planned their wedding day at Belmount around a blessing on the front lawn outside, risky business in England, especially in the heart of the Lake District. We have been blessed with weeks of sunshine throughout May and into June so it was looking hopeful! Unfortunately, we all woke to grey clouds on Saturday morning and light rain.

So… We supplied umbrellas to guests, chairs were moved outside onto the lawn and guests took their seats ready to welcome the bride. The atmosphere was wonderful. Everyone smiled and laughed all day!

Thank you’s

In advance of what is looking to be our third wedding where the sun will be shining down on Belmount, we have received a big thank you card from our second wedding of the year, where the weather was not quite on our side as much. Rachael and Jordan got married at the beginning of April in a marquee on the West Lawn, battling the rain from the day they arrived. Wet weather wasn’t going to stop anyone from having a fantastic day, though, and it provided many happy stories to tell!!

Dear Chris and Gillie,

Thank you so much for making our wedding day wonderful! Despite the weather, everything was perfect, the house, food, staff and ambience were wonderful. We especially thank you for your hard work, battling the weather/marquee at times.
All the best, and we will have fond memories of Belmount for the rest of our lives!

Rachael and Jordan’s Marquee Wedding

Wedding preparations began in the middle of last week. The marquee arrived on Wednesday, to be set up on our west lawn among the spring daffodils, ready for Rachael and Jordan’s 113 guest wedding at the weekend. After a beautiful sunny Thursday the weather took a turn and it rained from Friday morning through to Saturday evening. This didn’t dampen any spirits and the wedding party happily decorated the marquee with fairy lights, a vintage suitcase for cards, jam jars filled with flowers and retro vinyl records on the tables.

After a church wedding, guests, followed shortly by the new bride and groom, started arriving at Belmount to a canapé and champagne reception in the house before moving to the marquee for their wedding breakfast. The main course was a ‘carve your own’ lamb en croute with each designated carver being given an apron and a set of carving utensils… a very fun idea for the whole party.

The newly married couple finished the meal off with a triple layered wedding cake, before moving up to our west barn rooms for the party and evening entertainment where there was another cake made with five layers of cheese and adorned with fruit from Churchmouse Cheeses. The night continued with a band and lots of dancing! Congratulations to Rachael and Jordan.

… And a thank you from the mother and father of the groom!

Dear Chris and Gilly,

Thank you so much for all you did to make Jordan and Rachael’s wedding such a perfect and memorable day. We’d like to thank you both for making it so special in spite of all the rain.
